1. Be patient. I know this is easier said than done, but kids are busy little bees. Don't stress if things don't go exactly as you planned.

2. Get down to their level. Not only is it a interesting perspective, but it also allows you to be on equal ground.

3. Be a silly & play with them. This helps with pasted on smiles. Blow raspberries. Play peek-a-book. If you're silly and play with them, you'll have a higher chance of getting real smiles.

4. Take lots of Pictures. Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more! We live in the age of digital photography so don't be afraid to take lots of pictures! You are more likely to get some good ones if you take a whole bunch. Then, just delete the ones that didn't turn out and keep the ones you like.

5. Timing is everything. If you have young kiddos, make sure they're rested and fed. Happy kids, smiling faces.

6. Use Props. Kids will give you more sincere smiles and possibly stay still a little longer for you to snap a picture. Put them in big shoes or mom's jewelry -- guaranteed cuteness!
